and 523 km south of Paris.
Saint Etienne is the prefecture (capital) of the departement Loire (42)
and the 2nd most popoulus city in the Auverge Rhone Region.

The city is very hilly located at an altitude
between 422 m and 1.177 m
making it one of the highest cities in Europe
after Madrid and Sofia.
The climate of Saint Etienne is semi-continental
with mountain influence.
